Portland Patch Produce Patch

Church of Latter Day Saints
7943 Keefer Hwy, Portland, MI  48875

The Portland Patch Produce Patch is one of the many new community gardens joining the Community Food Network in 2011 now serving Ionia and Montcalm Counties.

Garden Plans for 2012

This garden was started by church volunteers in 2010 and became part of the Community Food Network when garden coordinator Margo Burton took the Master Gardener Class. This garden is approximately half an acre in size and has a wide variety of produce planted that will feed church members and be donated to Portland area Food Pantries. In 2012 garden coordinators will be experimenting with verticle growing thereby maximizing their space by "Growing UP!"

Volunteer Plans for 2012

Volunteers meet every Wednesday night at the garden from 7pm to 8:30pm. Other activities take place at the church on the same night, so feel free to stop in and lend a hand in this community garden!

National Days of Service for 2012

Garden Coordinator, Margo Burton assisted with the Global Youth Service Day activities taking place at the Washington St Garden and plans to hold a Harvest Event for September 11th Day of Service. Margo has also assisted other Community Food Network Gardens with plans for designs and development.
