Black Water

Black water lies like a mirror,
Not a ripple or wave in sight
Depths obscure 'neath the cypress sky.
Such majestic beauty takes my breath
An altar to the south land
Which takes me back to yesterday
Fishing 'neath the green branches.
In the silence of the swamp,
Total except for the bird's sweet songs
Or the splash of a gator
Hidden except for his eyes
Which look out with contempt
On those who dare disturb
His sacred domain.
No parol needed,
Just the nature's touch,
Under it's gentle caress
Which revives my soul
Which was so tense
In a dance of ancient majesty
Played by the mirrored water
Which reflects my soul.
